| Job Description | The Head of Technical Operations will lead a team of 25 people in two offices and take full responsibility for all aspects of production and office systems. The role reports directly to the CTO and the Operational areas that are included are: Production systems; Servers: Primarily Unix/Solaris/Linux; minor Windows; Web: Apache; Apps: Primarily Java/Tomcat; Network: Cisco; DB: Oracle, Informix, MySQL, SQL*Server; Storage: Netapp; Office MS-Win servers and desktops; Techops project management; Data centre and Release support. Requirements for this role – Someone who can define a techops vision and strategy that both supports the overall IT and business strategy and provides compelling guidance for the techops team. Bring in energy and enthusiasm to improve the status quo and drive change plans. Align techops to the strategy. Mesh emerging trends and best practices in technology and the on-line gambling industry into plans. Rework the organization to match the strategy. Drive root cause analysis of production failures. Foster learning from mistakes within IT, and communicate simplified analysis with the broader business. Improve planned and unplanned downtime, balancing commercial constraints with sound operational practices. Work with an offshore software development team to better deploy and manage software received from them. Work with QA and release engineers to support and improve the release process. Can create, implement and manage IT operational budgets. Work with a number of hardware, software and service suppliers - source, develop relationship, contract negotiation, risk management. Own roadmaps, backlogs, priorities by functional area (Data center, database, office systems, etc) within techops. Manage a portfolio of techops projects. Must have technical underpinnings and ability to quickly learn and form an opinion about new technologies. Should be able to rely on and create leverage within their own team, use external consultants, suppliers, and personal network of contacts to support making sound technical decisions. Production systems change control and release management practices. |
